Clay Transformations: An Innovative Research Project Transforming Lives Through Mutual Recovery

Project Summary

The main component of the project has been three blocks of eight week clay workshops which were run during 2014 in collaboration with City Arts in Nottingham.  Each eight week block was facilitated by two separate artists, Stephen Jon and Sandy Bywater and each group consisted of about ten participants from diverse backgrounds including mental health service users, artists and practitioners.  These workshops were evaluated using a mixed methods approach including baseline, mid-term and final well-being questionnaires (Secker et al, 2009; WEMBWS Tennant et al, 2007) and qualitative measures including photography, reflective logs, interviews, focus groups and participant observation.
