Uncertainty and Emotion

Posted on Thursday 2nd May 2024 by Paul Crawford

Philippa Barr has published a short book titled ‘Uncertainty and Emotion in the 1900 Sydney Plague’ in the Cambridge University Press Histories of Emotions and the Senses series. It may be of interest for colleagues interested in health humanities as it engages with contemporary debates in the history of pandemics and history of emotions, looking at the question of how gaps in medical knowledge influence emotion and decision making during the early phases of a pandemic. The analysis of disgust and judgement may be relevant to scholars working in shame and mental health.

To coincide with the print publication in April, the Element (short book) is open access and free to download from 29th April - 13th May 2024.

You can save a PDF of the book from the website: http://cambridge.org/uncertainty-emotion  It should be of interest to those studying the historical experience of pandemics, the history and philosophy of emotions, health humanities and the medical humanities. This might include students, medical and allied health professionals,  alumni.
