IHHN Conference Inspires New Research Group at University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Blog Entry

After participating IHHN's second international conference at Montclair State University last August, I returned to the University of Calgary determined to find colleagues (I knew there must be some!) who shared my interest in the connection between the humanities, health and wellbeing. I was keen to find a forum for the same kind of rich, interdisciplinary conversation I'd enjoyed at the conference. And, if I couldn't find it, I was keen to create one. Within weeks, I serendipitously connected with a campus friend/colleague, Graham McCaffrey, who shared my enthusiasm and agreed to pursue the idea with me. Over the course of the academic year, we found three other faculty members interested in helping establish a formal research group. With the support of Robert Oxoby, Associate Dean of Research, Faculty of Arts, we did it!  In this online article, you can read about the new University of Calgary Arts and Humanities for Health and Wellbeing Rearch Group. Or you can go to our website for more in depth information. We may just have fledged, but that's another way of saying: "We have lift off!"
