Susan Levy
Susan joined the University of Dundee in 2007 as a Lecturer in Social Work, having previously worked at the Universities of St Andrews, Edinburgh and The Open University. She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in geography at the University of St Andrews, including her PhD thesis: 'Wheelchair Users and Housing in Dundee: the social construction and spatiality of disability'. She is currently Programme Director of the MSc Applied Professional Studies programme and teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate qualifying social work programmes.
Susan has a long connection with dance through the London School of Contemporary Dance and Moving Visions. She is now developing a research focus on the arts, disability and social impact, in particular community based inclusive dance and music initiatives for disabled people. Her work explores the impact of involvement in inclusive arts activities on the wellbeing, independence and social inclusion of participants, their families and communities, as well as challenging established norms of who can dance/play music. Research on the arts, disability and social impact is situated more broadly within the social context of social care.
