Silvia Wyder

Born in Zurich, Switzerland. Studies of art, HEAD, Geneva, art therapy, L'Atelier, Geneva, MSc in mental health: Psychological Therapies, Queen Mary University of London, UK. Currently doing a research PhD in arts and health at the University of Derby, UK. My supervisor is Professor Dr Susan Hogan.

The focus of my PhD research is related to the possible symbolic representations of the self via the topic of the house in various cultures (fieldwork in Wil, Switzerland, Paris, France, Vienna, Austria, Eindhoven, Holland and Tokyo, Japan) and to see whether house representations may additionally point to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder symptoms. The integrated fields of my qualitative phenomenological research integrate notions of art, art therapy, architecture, anthropology, cultural studies, phenomenology, and sociology. My interest and focus of my research regarding mental health is to investigate mental suffering from a 'healthy' perspective, that is via architecture theory, considering the notion and impact of 'space' in societies hence to not 'only' focus on the psychopathological, or 'ill' side of life.

I currently live in France nearby Geneva where also my studio and art therapy practice is located.
