Sara Houston

Dr Sara Greenwood

Dr. Sara Houston is a Dance Studies academic and Principal Lecturer at the University of Roehampton in London UK. Her interest is in community dance, particularly on how it engages with marginalised or excluded people. Her research examining the experience of people with Parkinson's dancing won her a BUPA Foundation Prize in 2011, and she was Finalist in the National Public Engagement Awards in 2014 for her work engaging the public in this area. Through researching dance and Parkinson's, she has worked closely with English National Ballet (UK), as well as Theatre Freiburg (Germany) and Dance for Health (The Netherlands). She sits on the Advisory Board for Queensland Ballet's Dance for Parkinson's programme in Australia and the Practice Group of the Dance for Parkinson's Partnership in the UK. In building the next generation of scientists sympathetic to dance and to medical humanities, she has mentored junior scholars from Brown University USA, and those from a consortium of universities in Germany and Israel.

Dr Houston won a prestigious National Teaching Fellowship in 2014 and is Chair of the Board of People Dancing, the strategic organisation for community dance in UK. You can find her on twitter at @SaraPMHouston
